Bump steer fix · D-MAX · MU-X · BT-50

A pair of replacement front steering knuckles that correct bump steer on the current Isuzu D-Max, Isuzu MU-X and Mazda BT-50, so your tyres wear evenly and the steering stays settled over bumps, whether your vehicle is standard height or lifted.

What is bump steer?

Bump steer is when the front wheels steer themselves (toe in or toe out) as the suspension moves up and down, without you turning the wheel. It happens when the tie rod and the control arms don't travel through the same arc.

The D-Max, MU-X and BT-50 share a front end that is known for bump steer. It shows at standard height, and it gets worse as the vehicle is lifted or loaded. The result is:

  • Tyres wearing quickly and unevenly on the front
  • A wheel alignment that doesn't seem to hold
  • Steering that needs constant small corrections over bumps and rough roads

How TRC6680 fixes it

A wheel alignment can't correct bump steer, because the problem is in where the steering connects to the knuckle, not in the alignment settings. TRC6680 moves the tie rod pickup point on the knuckle so the steering arm follows the suspension's arc more closely. Toe change through the suspension travel drops sharply, as the chart above shows.

  • Corrects the cause. Relocates the tie rod pickup point instead of masking the symptoms.
  • Even tyre wear. Less toe change as the suspension moves means the tyres stay square to the road.
  • Settled steering. Less self-steer over bumps, with or without a lift or load.
  • Direct replacement. Made to replace the original knuckles with the same mounting points.
  • Built to last. Hot-forged steel, machined, heat-treated and black e-coated for corrosion protection.
  • Best with upper control arms. SuperPro recommends pairing TRC6680 with upper control arms for the best alignment on lifted vehicles. That's why it's offered with our PRO kits.

No PRO kit for your vehicle, or already lifted?

Not every D-Max, MU-X or BT-50 lift kit has a PRO version, and plenty of owners already run a lift from another brand. You can still correct bump steer by fitting steering knuckles on their own, or as a kit with upper control arms.

Option What's in it Best for
SuperPro TRC6680 2 steering knuckles (left and right) Vehicles that already have offset upper control arms, or that are at standard height
SuperPro TRC6680KIT 2 TRC6680 steering knuckles plus 2 SuperPro TRC6590 fixed-offset upper control arms with ball joints Lifted vehicles still on the original upper arms. The knuckles correct bump steer, and the arms restore camber and caster at the lifted height
Whiteline KCA514 2 steering knuckles (left and right) The Whiteline alternative to TRC6680. It does the same job, relocating the tie rod pickup point, and suits the same vehicles

Not sure which one you need? Tell us your vehicle, its current lift and whether it already has aftermarket upper control arms, and we'll recommend the right option. Diff drop and sway bar relocation kits aren't included in any of these.

Fitting

This is a workshop job. The front hubs and related original parts are moved across to the new knuckles. SuperPro recommends fitting by a skilled mechanic or suspension technician (allow about 4 hours), followed by a front wheel alignment.

Common questions

Will a wheel alignment fix bump steer?

No. An alignment sets the toe at one ride height. Bump steer is the toe changing as the suspension moves, which comes from the steering geometry itself.

Do I need it if my vehicle isn't lifted?

These vehicles show bump steer at standard height too, and TRC6680 suits both standard height and lifted vehicles. It makes the biggest difference once the vehicle is lifted or carrying weight.

Can upper control arms fix it on their own?

Upper control arms help with alignment on a lifted vehicle, but they don't move the tie rod pickup point. SuperPro designed TRC6680 to work with upper control arms for the most complete correction.

What warranty does it have?

TRC6680 is covered by SuperPro's lifetime warranty. Conditions apply, so see the Warranty tab for details.
