Who is KONI
Precision handling.
KONI is known for crafting top quality, innovative shocks that suit all kinds of rides. Started by A. de Koning in 1932 in the Netherlands, KONI covers everything from your daily drive to professional motorsport.
Many KONI shocks are adjustable, so you can get your ride just right, and each range is engineered for a specific kind of vehicle and driving: performance cars, everyday cars, classics, vans and motorhomes, and 4WDs.
Heritage
Since 1932.
KONI was started by A. de Koning in the Netherlands in 1932, and has more than 80 years of shock absorber development behind it. The range runs from everyday driving through to professional motorsport. KONI shocks on Northman are built by KONI in Europe.
KONI's patented Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) is one of its best-known technologies. Active FSD is fitted at the factory to over 10 million vehicles worldwide, and KONI has delivered over 70 million FSD valves (see KONI Special Active).
In Australia, KONI shock absorbers sold by Northman are covered by the KONI Australia warranty, provided by Toperformance Products, the Australian distributor of KONI (see KONI warranty conditions).
Adjustability
How KONI adjustment works.
Many KONI shocks are user-adjustable, so you can set rebound damping for your car, load and driving. Which kind of adjustment you have depends on the shock.
Internal adjustment
No adjuster tab or button. You adjust it with the shock off the vehicle by compressing it fully and then turning it. KONI uses internal adjustment on twin-tube shocks such as Classic, Special, Heavy Track and RAID.
Internal guide ›External adjustment
Has an adjuster tab at the top of the rod. You can adjust it with the shock fitted, using the KONI adjuster knob. KONI uses it on twin-tube and monotube shocks, and most have a single rebound adjustment. KONI Sport and GTS use it.
External guide ›Button adjustment
Has an adjusting button. You adjust it off the vehicle by pressing the button and turning the piston rod in clear clicks. KONI uses button adjustment on monotube shocks.
Button guide ›FSD or fixed
Special Active has no buttons. Its Active FSD valve adapts to the road in real time. STR.T uses fixed valving with application-specific tuning, so no adjustment is needed.
How FSD works ›Not sure which style you have? Check the KONI instruction sheet or the Adjustment row on the product's Specs tab, or ask us.

Questions? Answers.
Is KONI a European brand?
Yes. KONI was started by A. de Koning in the Netherlands in 1932, and KONI shocks on Northman are built by KONI in Europe.
Which KONI shock is right for my car?
Use the finder at the top of this page to see KONI parts for your vehicle, or compare the ranges in the table above. As a guide: Sport for performance builds, Special Active for comfort, STR.T for everyday value, and GTS for adjustable coilovers.
Heavy Track or RAID: which should I choose?
KONI positions Heavy Track for SUVs and light 4x4s that tackle rough terrain occasionally, and RAID for the toughest off-road conditions, with a heavier 2.5 mm body and oversized 70 mm piston. See KONI 4WD.
How do I adjust my KONI shocks?
What is KONI FSD?
Frequency Selective Damping is KONI's patented technology. It adds a valve that controls a second, parallel oil path, so the shock smooths out bumps and firms up during cornering and body roll. It's used in KONI Special Active.
Do KONI shocks suit lowered cars?
KONI Sport is engineered to pair with high-performance lowering springs, and STR.T is optimised for stock springs and street lowering kits such as Eibach and H&R.
What warranty does KONI carry in Australia?
Under the KONI Australia warranty (provided by Toperformance Products): limited lifetime on passenger car and 4WD shock absorbers, 2 years unlimited km on STR.T, and 1 year unlimited km on commercial vehicle shocks and fitting parts. Our GTS page lists 3 years, unlimited km for GTS coilovers. Racing or competition use and modified vehicles aren't covered. See KONI warranty conditions. Your Australian Consumer Law rights still apply.
