KONI Internal Adjustment Guide

If your KONI shock has no adjuster tab or button and its KONI instructions say to compress it to adjust, it uses internal adjustment. You adjust it with the shock off the vehicle by compressing it fully, then turning it.

KONI uses internal adjustment on twin-tube shocks.

What you'll need

  • The KONI shock, off the vehicleHeld upright
  • Your handsNo special tools are needed

On some internal adjustment shocks, you need to take the bump stop off the dust cover before adjusting.

How much to turn: KONI recommends adjusting in half-turn (180°) steps. The total range varies, but it's usually between 4 and 6 half-turns.

HOW TO

Adjusting step by step

  1. Hold the shock upright. Take off the bump stop from the dust cover first if your shock has one fitted there.
  2. Collapse the shock fully. Push it down gently and carefully until you lightly feel it bottom out and stop.
  3. Engage the adjuster. Keeping it collapsed, slowly turn the piston rod or dust cover anticlockwise (up to about half a turn) until the rod drops slightly and you feel the cams of the adjusting nut engage in the foot valve.
  4. Turn to adjust. Keeping the shock collapsed and the adjuster engaged, turn the piston rod or dust cover clockwise to make it firmer. Work in half-turn steps.
  5. Disengage the adjuster. Pull the shock straight out by at least 1 cm without turning it.
  6. Refit the bump rubber if you removed one, before fitting the shock.

Tips

  • Gas-charged shocks push the rod back up, so keep steady downward pressure while you turn.
  • The adjuster has no set clicks, so you can fine-tune the setting to suit your vehicle.

Not the right adjuster?

KONI uses different adjustment styles depending on the shock. If yours doesn't match this guide, try one of these.
