Why Special Active

No buttons. No gimmicks. No compromise.

Special Active is KONI's intelligent damper upgrade for street-driven cars. It delivers premium ride comfort without giving up handling, using KONI's Active FSD technology to adapt to the road in real time.

Patented FSD technology

Smooths out bumps and rough roads, then firms up during cornering and body roll.

Adjusts to the terrain automatically

Reacts to road inputs in fractions of a second, responding to both the surface and your driving style.

Twin-tube construction

Inner and outer cylinders manage oil flow for consistent, controlled damping that isolates the body from road imperfections.

OEM quality fitment

The same Active FSD technology carmakers fit at the factory, engineered for a wide range of vehicles.

The technology

How KONI FSD works

Suspension has always been a balance: soft for a smooth ride, firm for precise handling. KONI's patented Frequency Selective Damping removes that compromise.

A second, parallel oil path

In a standard shock absorber, the main damping forces come from oil flowing through the piston assembly. A KONI FSD shock keeps those baseline damping characteristics, and adds an FSD valve that controls a parallel oil flow path inside the shock. That lets FSD react instantly, constantly optimising damping whatever the terrain.

It reads the frequency of every input

FSD automatically tells the difference between slow body movements and fast road impacts, and responds to each differently. Because it works through a purely mechanical valve, the response is immediate and seamless at any speed.

Input Examples FSD response
Low frequency Slow body movements: cornering, braking, accelerating Firmer damping to support vehicle stability
High frequency Fast road impacts: rough surfaces, sharp bumps Softens instantly to absorb harshness from the road

Built in

Fully mechanical, tuned per vehicle

  • Integrated into the hydraulic valve system. FSD needs no extra cables, sensors or electronics, which KONI calls one of the simplest and most economical ways to significantly improve ride and handling.
  • Tunable for any vehicle. KONI engineers tune the valve and damping characteristics for each application.
  • Twin-tube design. Combined with the FSD valve, it gives precise rebound control, better stability and a smooth, refined ride.
  • Proven at the factory. Active FSD is fitted at the factory to over 10 million vehicles worldwide, and KONI has delivered over 70 million FSD valves.

FAQ

Special Active questions

Do I need to adjust Special Active shocks?
No. Special Active uses ACTIVE technology: the FSD valve adapts to the road by itself, so there are no buttons or knobs to set.
Does it need wiring or electronics?
No. FSD is part of the hydraulic valve system inside the shock. It needs no cables, sensors or other electronic devices.
How does it tell a bump from a corner?
FSD separates low-frequency inputs (cornering, braking, accelerating) from high-frequency inputs (rough surfaces, sharp bumps). It firms up for the first and softens instantly for the second.
Can I use it with lowering springs?
KONI offers Special Active in specifically engineered kits matched to OEM or performance lowering springs.
Are the shocks sold individually?
Yes. Single shocks are sold individually and you need 2 per axle. Front & rear sets of 4 are also listed for many vehicles.
Is it a twin-tube or monotube shock?
Twin-tube, with an inner and outer cylinder working together to manage oil flow.
Is FSD proven technology?
Yes. KONI's Active FSD has been fitted at the factory to over 10 million vehicles worldwide by top carmakers.
What warranty does it carry?
